The Rise of the Salton Sea is the first novel in a series of biographical narratives. It is based on a collection of personal journals that chronicle the events and lives of the people that wrote them. This Wiki was created to provide additional context and scope for for the events described in the novel.

About this Wiki[edit | edit source]

The documents this Wiki was created from were found in the same location as the personal journals noted in the introduction above. The contents of those documents are comprised of articles aggregated from several versions of Wikipedia that span several decades. It is not a complete or comprehensive version of the various Wikipedia editions.

Encryption & Decryption[edit | edit source]

In their original form, the articles were archived on several outdated electronic storage devices. The individual files were found to be protected with a sophisticated encryption technology. A significant investment of effort and resources were was required to understand the encryption technology and develop a method of decrypting it.

Even with the vast capabilities of modern computers, the decryption process takes a considerable amount of time. As a result, the number of articles that have been decrypted and published on this site represent only a small portion of the total. Additionally, of the articles that have been published, very few have been fully decrypted. Most contain multiple sections that remain encrypted.

There are also portions of the storage media that were physically damaged at some point in the past. This causes Fragmentary Encryption Anomaly errors during the decryption process. Efforts to develop a solution for the issue are an ongoing effort.

Editing[edit | edit source]

All articles and media from the various versions of Wikipedia have been converted to the contemporary Wikipedia format. Other than formatting, no changes have been made to the content.

Even though nothing has been changed during the editing and conversion process, minor modifications were to the original content were discovered. Among many small changes, the removal or redaction of proper names of individuals are the most prevalent. These items are noted whenever they are detected.

Many articles in this Wiki have duplicate entries sourced from different years. They were recovered from the 2101Se Wikipedia revision history and published because they offer unique insights over a single article on the same subject. Differentiation of the articles is denoted by a trailing date in parenthesis. For example; Salton Sea (2020), Salton Sea (2048), and Salton Sea (2066). If no year is included it can be assumed it is the most forward dated article available. Readers are encouraged to view all versions for a better understanding of the subject matter.

Journalistic Integrity[edit | edit source]

A paramount objective of this Wiki is to maintain journalistic integrity. However, as noted in the Encryption & Decryption section above, most articles have not been fully decrypted. This creates competing interests in the decision process for publishing incomplete articles. Publishing an incomplete articles risks misunderstanding or misinterpretation by a reader. But there is also a compelling need to make new content available as quickly as possible. As a compromise, whenever articles are published, notations are included to warn readers about drawing conclusions based on incomplete content.

See Editing Notations Section for additional information. Sign up here for notifications about newly decrypted content.

Supporting Media[edit | edit source]

Two additional novels titled Moon Shift and World Shift will follow the release of the first book in 2020 and 2021. Another series of novels delving into more detail regarding specific individuals and events will be published at some point in the future. The first book anticipated in that series, Fire on High, is tentatively set for a 2022 release.

Biography VS Novelization[edit | edit source]

The original objective of this project was to present each individual's journal as a biography. But early in the process of preparing the personal journals for publication, it became clear publishing them as multiple biography would not be a ideal method of presentation. Publishing independent biography lacked several vital elements necessary for communicating the broader scope of events occurring outside of each individual's direct experience. Something more was necessary to convey how lives were intertwined with others and how it all connected to larger events.

Biopic Solution[edit | edit source]

The most viable solution was to combine segments of every person's life journey into a single biopic narrative. This made it possible for each individual's narrative to build a cohesive accounting of larger events from multiple perspectives. But it also raised several other issues. First was the concern each individual's story might be diminished if it was perceived as a dramatization. This is not the case. Every precaution has been taken to accurately preserve every person's thoughts, feelings, and perspectives when conveying it from their journals into the biopic.

Websites[edit | edit source]

Other supporting material has been published on additional websites. Life of the Salton Sea is a site that details the past history of the Salton Sea. Rise of the Salton Sea combines the information contained in this Wiki into a timeline of events. It also includes a timeline of redacted historical events that have not been known until now.

Recommended Articles[edit | edit source]

Reading the contents of this Wiki in its entirety is not recommended. As previously noted its purpose is to provide context to the lives of the people chronicled in their personal journals and depth to their world. Their lives can be better understood by reading the books and experiencing events as they unfold for them.

Below are a list of articles that readers can use to familiarize themselves with the world those people will live in.
